G Chae received dual B.A. degrees in Philosophy and English, and graduated summa cum laude from Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul, Korea. She then moved to the U.S. and earned an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Georgetown University, where she researched grammatical variability in Korean and its first and second acquisitions. G wrote her doctoral dissertation on second language acquisition of Korean grammar by native English speakers, which equipped her with an exceptional understanding of learning challenges uniquely posed by Korean learners whose first language is English.

Armed with an up-to-date perspective on language acquisition and Korean linguistics, G has established a career as a Korean language expert with high versatility. She has a proven record of success in her roles as a teacher, curriculum developer, and localization/translation consultant. She was formerly the Korean language manager at Canva, and a senior faculty specialist at the National Foreign Language Center at the University of Maryland. She was also appointed as an assistant professor at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center. Now based in both D.C. and Seoul, G is continuing her career as a freelance Korean language specialist, and is also working on creative writing projects in performing arts.

Joining KOCO Center, G introduces herself as an extremely patient and compassionate teacher saying, “I am well aware of the substantial cognitive difficulties in building a Korean mind on an English mind. Students can get frustrated. My role is to constantly listen to their individual needs and provide them with support, letting them know they are not alone in their learning.”
